Our guest artist for the month of September is Leah Gore, a recent cum laude graduate of Marshall University’s College of Fine Arts.  Leah, who is also a chef, is influenced by Appalachian heritage, gestural line, and fermentation.  Forty years ago, Leah’s grandparents lost everything when their family business, the Dutch Oven Bakery in Southern West Virginia, went ablaze.  She said she wanted to create pieces based on this tragedy.  Blue collar materiality, Appalachia history and the documentation of the baker’s hand were her influence for these multimedia pieces.
