January is a pivotal month for Gallery Eleven as we move from Charleston Town Center to 205 West Washington St. in the Elk City Historic District of Charleston. We celebrated our 50th Anniversary in October 2025 as the area’s oldest art cooperative, founded in 1975.

Among the delights in Gallery Eleven’s move to Elk City is our being surrounded by magnificent public art. The giant portrait mural “Day Dreamer” by Dan Toro, at West Washington St. and Pennsylvania Ave. provides a welcoming entrance to this historic district. The subject's calm indifference to the rush of traffic from downtown Charleston is also an invitation to slow down and enjoy a change of pace in Elk City's unique collection of small shops, pubs, and eateries.
Only a block away on West Washington, is the bold montage covering another brick wall along Jupiter Alley, which was renamed in honor of the artist Charles Jupiter Hamilton. In fact, this intriguing collection of images can be seen through the display windows inside Gallery Eleven at 205 West Washington St.

Almost next door to the gallery on the rear wall of Dancing Dog Ice Cream Cafe at 201 West Washington St. there is an untitled montage mural by Edistew and Ketch. Pedestrian access to this colorful painted wall is through Artists Alley with its own collection of smaller murals.

Be sure to visit our new gallery soon and check out the surrounding murals and shops, including the trendy women's clothing store and the new Italian restaurant next door.
In February, Gallery Eleven will feature artist Newman Jackson with a dynamic new painting that is not to be missed. See you soon in Elk City Historic District?
