Newman Jackson | Artistic Transitions
From Norman Rockwell realism to Daliesque surrealism to abstract expressionism, Newman Jackson continues to explore several styles of painting with a masterly dedication to each tradition.
Newman's primary urge to paint is vividly expressed by the name of his website and studio, Aphrolachian Art. As a minority citizen in a historically undervalued American subculture, Newman challenges his creative work to convey a uniquely recognizable value beyond stylistic or social identity. The intriguing success of that challenge is viewable in over 60 Newman Jackson paintings on his website www.aphrolachianart.com. As one of our artist members, some of Newman's paintings for sale are always available at Gallery Eleven, in Charleston Town Center. Gallery hours: Wed-Sat, 11am-7pm; Sun, 12:30-5:30pm. A live exhibit of Newman's artworks for sale also opens at Carnegie Hall in Lewisburg, WV on January 10 and continues thru March.
Newman's paintings are usually done with oil paints, some with a cold wax technique. He occasionally uses acrylic or other media. In recent years, Newman has also worked with stained glass. He promises to introduce an initial series of glass works for sale and exhibit here at Gallery Eleven sometime in 2025. As major fans of his versatile works with brush and paint, we are eager to see what stylistic transitions Newman Jackson brings to his work with glass and lead.
